Frequently Asked Questions

How are you different from the Montecito Association?

The Montecito Community Foundation is a philanthropic 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization that qualifies for tax deductible gifts of cash, real property, and securities. These gifts are used exclusively for projects to improve our community. In contrast, The Montecito Association is an entirely separate, annual membership organization committed to policy and political issues related to the protection of the semi-rural character of Montecito as guided by the Montecito Community Plan. Based on it’s charter, the Montecito Association is not able to accept tax deductible gifts.

How to report a broken road sign?

There are approximately 212 hand-crafted wooden road signs in Montecito which are paid for and maintained by the Montecito Community Foundation. You can report a damaged road sign by contacting the Montecito Community Foundation.

Are you a tax-exempt non-profit?

Yes. All donations are tax-exempt to fullest extent permitted by law. The Montecito Community Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt corporation founded in 1966 to support a strong Montecito community and serve as a resource for philanthropy. Our tax identification number is 95-6149983. Please consider your community by including the Montecito Community Foundation in your estate plan. Click Here to download Donation Form.

How is Your Donation Used and Recognized?

The Montecito Community Foundation is a volunteer board. Unless specified, a portion of your donation is applied toward operational needs, for road sign maintenance and repair, bus stop enhancement and the many projects and grants we provide to the community.

In addition to earmarking contributions for a specific project, donors also have the opportunity to sponsor an enhanced bus-stop with name recognition on the bus stop’s bench. This project is in partnership with the Montecito Community Foundation and the Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD). Please contact us if you are interested in sponsoring a bus stop.

Which area does the Montecito Community Foundation serve?

The Montecito Community Foundation accepts Grant Applications for projects within the Montecito Fire Protection District boundaries as delineated on this map (click here to view). Please refer to our Grant Guidelines or email us to discuss a potential project.
